YouTubeVR Internship

Overview

Summer of 2019 I had the opportunity to intern with YouTubeVR at their headquarters in San Bruno, California. During that time I had the opportunity to work with and learn from many skilled UX researchers, designers, prototypers, and developers. While I cannot share design files from my projects their, I can say my primary work was created detailed UI and UX designs for adding the "Movies and Shows" feature to the YouTubeVR app. The project culminated in working with our UX prototyper to create interactable mockups, working with a researcher to get actual users and conduct testing of the designs, iterate on the feedback, and present the final results to the YouTube overall UX review board. The final designs were approved, specced out, and handed off to the developers and are now live in production.

I'll also highlight an initiative I took while working at YouTube to engage in cross team communication and design efforts, to unify the scattered movies and shows UX across various platform (web, mobile, TV, VR). While I never got to see this initiative through to the end, it was the first steps in a longer term effort to create continuity across platforms for this particular feature - and I believe the self-driven work I began, continued on after the internship ended.

Below are a few screenshots of what the Movies and Shows feature looks like live in the app as of 12/23. I cannot say if it matches entirely the designs, but the core implementation is there. I am happy to answer any questions about the experience beyond what is listed here.
